Ismail Turay has lived in Hyde park since migrating into the United States in 1975 from West Africa. He is a retired Industrial Engineer and worked for three different companies (Elgin and Waltham Watch Company, Ker Glass Manufacturing, Leaf Candy and finally Ada S. McKinley Industries) before his retirement in 2016. Ismail and his wife, who is an employee of the University of Chicago, have six Children who all attended the neighborhood schools before going to universities. Ismail’s community involvement includes Shoesmith Elementary School (President of the Local School Council (LSC)), Friends of Shoesmith (founding member), Kenwood Academy (President of LSC for many years), HPKCC, CAC, and finally CHPV. Ismail is a member of HPKCC’s Schools Committee, Membership Committee, and Nominating Committee.
